Obtaining a visa/a residence permit
After official acceptance at INSA Rennes, non-European students must apply for a long-stay student visa (VLS-TS). Upon arrival, they must follow the online administrative procedure (ANEF) with the Department for Foreigners in France. This step must be taken within 3 months after arrival in France.
After one year in France and within 4 months before the expiry of their student visa, students can apply for a residence permit if they continue their studies.
European students do not need to apply for a visa or a residence permit.

Welcome service
International students arriving in Rennes for the first time can benefit from our welcome service at Rennes station/airport (according to availabilities) between the end of August and the beginning of October. If you would like to benefit from this service, you need to apply 3 days before your arrival at the latest:
- Application for our welcome service (Rennes station/airport only)
- Practical information to come to INSA campus (if you cannot benefit from our welcome service)
The International Office
The INSA Rennes International Office can provide information and assistance for administrative formalities as well as practical information about student life and events for international students.
The International Mobility Center (CMI)
The CMI provides assistance to international students, PhD students and researchers before, during, and after their stay in Rennes. It also provides a practical guide for international students in Rennes, as well as a whole range of services to help them with administrative and arrival procedures.
The CMI also offers a program of cultural & tourist activities to discover Rennes and its region, organises intercultural events and highlights international actions and outings in Rennes in order to encourage interactions between international students and students from Rennes.
The BEAR club
The BEAR club ("Bureau des Etudiants accueillis à Rennes") is a member of AEIR (INSA Rennes student association). The club aims to welcome and integrate international students by organising activities, outings or parties and encouraging an international atmosphere on the campus.
