International track - GLOBALINSA (INSA Rennes)
Years 1 & 2
In addition to the traditional years 1 and 2 programs at INSA Rennes (Classical track), you have the option of joining the international program called GLOBALINSA (INSA Rennes), half of which is made up of international students. The programs are identical, but the international stream benefits from a specific pedagogy geared towards the international scene.

International track - GLOBALINSA (INSA Rennes) / Years 1 & 2
- Science curriculum identical to that of the classical track;
- wo compulsory modern languages, including English;
- French as a Foreign Language (FFL) for non-French-speaking students;
- Teaching in French and some scientific modules in English (2nd year).

1st year international internship
- Possibility of a one-month internship in a non-French-speaking company for French students (recommended, with the possibility of a GLOBALINSA internship grant);
- One-month internship in a French company for non-French-speaking students.
Preparatory Semester for INSA Rennes (SPIR)
Before joining the 1st year of the International track GLOBALINSA (INSA Rennes) in September, non-French-speaking students can take advantage of a linguistic and scientific semester from February to June:
- French as a Foreign Language - FFL (15h/week): by level group
All non-French-speaking students at INSA Rennes can take FLE courses to improve their written and oral French; - Science courses and practical work in French: scientific upgrading (knowledge and vocabulary) in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, etc. ;
- English courses (2h/week);
- Introduction to French culture;
- Cultural and heritage visits to Rennes and the surrounding area.
Courses are shared with the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Rennes (ENSCR), which also offers an integration semester for foreign students admitted to the 1st Cycle international Chem.I.St in the Gay-Lussac federation.
A diploma (DEFI-GLOBALINSA (INSA Rennes) : Diploma in Teaching French for Integration to GLOBALINSA) now validates successful completion of this semester of study and the achievement of a sufficient level of French for entry into 1st year GLOBALINSA (INSA Rennes). In the event of non-validation, admission to 1st year is postponed until the required level (>B1) is obtained.
Target audience
Intended for international students admitted to the International track at INSA Rennes, Rouen, Lyon, Toulouse (GLOBALINSA), whose level of French does not allow them to follow the French courses given in 1st year.
It is the INSA admissions jury that imposes the SPIR, depending on the candidate's level of French and scientific knowledge.
Following the SPIR course, students return to their INSA of assignment.
Course of the semester
- This semester takes place every year from February to June;
- Arrival in Paris (airport) then transfer to Rennes (at the student's expense; bus, train, etc.) ;
- Stay with a host family for the first week in France, organized by the “Séjour en Famille Française” association;
- Assistance with administrative formalities;
- Accommodation and meals on the INSA campus for the rest of the semester.
Cost of SPIR preparatory semester: €3,000
- French as a foreign language in groups of different levels (200h);
- Science courses and practical work in French (200h) ;
- English courses;
- Reception and accommodation for a week in a family by the “Séjour en Famille Française” association;
- Assistance with administrative formalities;
- Introduction to French culture;
- Cultural and heritage visits to Rennes and the surrounding area.
Cost of accommodation: €309 per month
- Accommodation in residence on the INSA Rennes campus;
- On-campus catering available at extra cost.
Spring School Groupe INSA at Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi'An, China
Every year in April, Groupe INSA organizes a spring school with our partner Northwestern Polytechnical University, in Xi'an, China.
This 15-day program is open to 2nd-year international students. It consists of a cultural and scientific program, with technical workshops in project mode, mixing INSA and NWPU students. Each workshop culminates in a final presentation in English.
During these 15 days, students also discover life on the NWPU campus, as well as Chinese culture and customs. Accommodation and meals, as well as most visits, are paid for by NWPU. Students are responsible for airfare and visa fees, as well as other personal expenses on site.

Application
Candidates preparing the French scientific baccalaureate (in France or abroad)
- Apply to INSA Rennes via the PARCOURSUP portal;
- As soon as you are admitted to INSA Rennes, download the registration file containing an application form for admission to the international program in Rennes (GLOBALINSA (INSA Rennes));
- Send the application along with a copy of your final year transcript, a letter of motivation specifying the languages you speak and at what level, and any information about an international course or program.

The committee decides on final admission to the international program during the first week of the new school year.

Candidates preparing an international baccalaureate

Applications are examined on the basis of geographical origin, level of French and level of English. A very good scientific level is required.
Depending on the candidate's level of French, the admissions jury may require a preparatory semester in French (SPIR) or a summer school.
The International track offers special support for international students.
Registration: international students entering French higher education for the first time
International students outside Europe and European students without a European Health Card
- To register for Social Security in France, log on to the dedicated website. You will need to provide the certificate of enrolment issued by INSA Rennes, as well as the required documents. This must be done as soon as possible after registration.
- You will be covered by French social security from the day you register, provided you have completed all the necessary formalities on the website.
- Students arriving in France before the registration deadline must ensure that they have private health cover, as they are not yet affiliated to the French social security system.
European international students in possession of a European health card
In this case, students are not affiliated to the French Social Security system, and do not need to register on the dedicated website.
To top up your reimbursements, you can take out complementary health insurance with the organization of your choice (a student mutual insurance company, your parents' mutual insurance company, another complementary organization, etc.)
Non-EU students
INSA Rennes applies differentiated fees, so we invite you to read the terms and conditions on our cost of studies page. Students pay their fees on the day of registration. However, given the amount involved, we advise students to make an administrative transfer 10 days before the day of registration (see RIB below). Students eligible for partial exemption (tax residents in France or students who began their studies before the start of the 2019 academic year in a French establishment without interruption until the start of the 2022 academic year) must provide supporting documents.
Visas and residence permits for international students
- International students: E.E.E. and European Union nationals
Upon arrival, students must be in possession of a passport or identity card, as well as a European health card covering the entire academic year.
- International students: non-E.E.E. and European Union nationals
À leur arrivée, les étudiants devront être en possession d’un passeport avec un visa long séjour mention étudiant ou d’une carte de séjour pour les étudiants déjà présents sur le territoire français.

Tuition fees for foreign students at GLOBALINSA (INSA Rennes) (Rates for year 2024-2025)
Total cost for 2 years of study: €3,000*
- 2 weeks of intensive courses (French and sciences) before entering 1st year;
